The Final Synthesis course, focused on Speculative Design and death,
concerned the conception, design and implementation of an interactive device and the entire
visual system that surrounds it, with the aim to make people reflect on death. Thus Micromort
was born: a new currency which value represents the price of death in every nation in the world.
An interactive installation was created – Stock Exchange Experience – exploring and tracking Micromort's
fluctuations from 2000 to 2017 through 17 screens and
4 LED strips.
2020 — SPECULATIVE DESIGN
Micromort Project
01TYPE: UNIVERSITY TEAM PROJECT
COURSE: SINTESI FINALE
SKILLS: ART DIRECTION, BRANDING, UX&UI, INSTALLATION ART, MOTION DESIGN
WEBSITE:MICROMORT.ORGFEATURED:SPECULATIVEEDU.EU,FUORISALONE TV
Challenge
The course required to interpret the theme of death in an original
and unconventional way: the main objective was not to talk about death, but to trigger a
reflection on it, through an interactive device, with which the user could interact.
Solution
After careful analysis and reflection on
the theme of death, the idea of a currency that would represent its value emerged, leading those
who come into contact with it to reflect on the fact that unconsciously you give a different value
to death depending on where you die. Starting from this concept, we conceived, designed and engineered a
bag of death: a pentagonal-based parallelepiped with 16 screens displaying stock exchange graphics. The 17th
screen is a monitor-touch, placed on the fifth side, which allows an intimate and personal interaction - through a p
rogram based on a 3D globe - of the data presented by Micromort.
In this way, a project has been realized starting from an idea, conceptualizing it, creating a fictitious brand and designing
its identity, and then moving on to the design of the installation, design and realization with videos, immersing itself in
the branch of data visualization. Finally, the editorial and gadget products designed for the actual exhibition were created:
from the explanatory brochure, to the posters, to Micromort's physical coin.
