An elegant
typeface
Specimen realized during the course of Typographic Design:
the aim was to represent in all its facets a typeface of own choice. My choice has
fallen on the SangBleu typefaces, from the Swiss Typefaces foundry, as it presented
itself as an interesting field of study, since it takes up the style of classics of
typography, such as Didot, but modernizes them. The result is a peculiar typeface:
elegant, but also aggressive.

Challenge
Sangbleu is a rather recent typeface, published towards the end of 2017
by Swiss Typefaces, has given a modernization to the great typographic classics. Being so recent,
it has also been used in very few design projects, making it more complex to understand the nature of
the font. Further difficulties were imposed by the teacher: the format, the exclusive use of black and
the number of fixed pages.
Solution
Elegant and aggressive. Sinuous and angular.
These are the antitheses that best explain the SangBleu and that I tried to highlight more
inside the Specimen. The SangBleu is a cousin of Didot, from which it draws its elegance, but
it is also a very modern and aggressive font, thanks to the sharp contrast and the cuts of some
letters, like the k. It was interesting to highlight how some details, almost like sharpen cut,
contrast with some very round and sinuous letters. Equally interesting is to underline the difference
between roman and italic, the different possibilities of use and the peculiarities of some glyphs,
such as the Mexican skull.
