An visual
book
A 360° book, whose pioneer is the Japanese artist Yusuke Oono, is very similar to the
frames of a video or a panoramic photograph, only in a purely static paper format. Starting from the choice
of a film, a book, a work of art, which for us fell on Alessandro Baricco's monologue Novecento, we were asked
to create a 360° book that could express the essence of the story, highlighting the main places of the narrative:
the first class, the third class and the engine room.
Challenge
Building a visual narrative from a written text and trying to give it a three-dimensionality
was the main challenge. The spaces, by necessity, in a 360° book are the protagonists and the journey to be built
for the spectator is a journey through the spaces of the narrative, which must be carefully chosen and rendered through the most appropriate visual style.
Solution
The narration has as its fulcrum, around which all the scenes
revolve, the wave of the ocean, which grows as the music of the protagonist, Novecento.
The story takes place on the ocean liner Virginian, sailing from Europe to America, passing through
the classes of Virginian. The first class,
in which he played during the evenings, the third class, in which he played for his friends, and the engine room,
where he spent his childhood.
