5/Hansel & Gretel

A platform game

The goal of the CG course was to set a fairytale ten years after the happy ending and build a platform game - accompanied by 3D images supporting the narrative - whose characters are Lego men. We made a horror re-imagining with clear references to Tim Burton’s characters, but with gloomy and dark colours, a disturbing atmosphere and rotten sweets. Ten years later Hansel and Gretel quarrel, breaking the magic locket they stole from the witch: the breakup awakens the dead witch, who imprisons Hansel in the locket. The only way Gretel can get her brother back is to return to the witch's house, now made of rotten sweets, and win her for good.

The game consists of two different levels: the first is horizontal, with an evolution of the landscape from a normal forest to a rotten cake forest where the witch's house is located. The second level is vertical in the rotten marzipan house and ends in the oven, where the witch must be defeated.

The renders were made with 3DS Max and Vray: the use of Vray's depth of field and fog allowed us to improve the visual quality of the render.
