For Essilor, with SUUN Studio we created a series of high-end 3D animations that unpack the complex technology behind Crizal® lenses – known for their anti-glare, scratch-resistant, and clarity-enhancing properties. Each animation translated microscopic behavior into macro gestures, turning layers of technical data into flowing, sensorial narratives. Working within a Houdini-based pipeline, I contributed to the simulations and rendering of lens coatings, using cloth dynamics, vellum setups, and material transitions to express the lenses’ multi-layered structure. The focus was on precision and visual poetry: micro-friction becomes surface texture, glare becomes light play, and invisible layers take on a tangible presence. More than a product reveal, the project aimed to shift perception, making technological depth not just legible, but captivating.

To simulate the behavior of Crizal’s multi-layer coatings, we employed Houdini’s Vellum cloth system, crafting a custom setup that mimicked the thinness, fluidity, and responsiveness of optical films. Using wind forces, axis constraints, and mask-driven falloffs, We tailored the dynamics to behave with localized precision—stretching, folding, and reacting to the lens geometry as if shaped by invisible micro-pressures. The system was driven by a series of VEX-based controls, enabling high-resolution control over material behavior while preserving a sense of elegance and technical fidelity.
